Public Enemy icon and reality TV star Flavor Flav brought his signature energy to Las Vegas this week, but things took a humorous turn during a formal government meeting. On Tuesday, May 19, Flav appeared before the Clark County Commission to advocate for his proposed "SHE Weekend," a parade and event series designed to honor female Olympians.
The Interruption
Dressed in his usual vibrant style, Flav began a passionate plea to support women in sports.
"I just wanted to say thank you for giving me the opportunity and I'm honored to be able to bring these United States Olympic athletes here to Las Vegas," Flav stated earnestly. "I am a girl dad and big supporter of women's sports."
Just as he was building momentum, Commissioner Michael Naft cut in with a chuckle. "I'm sorry to interrupt you," Naft said, prompting laughter from the room. "My colleagues are reminding me that we need your name for the record."
Realizing he had launched into his speech without formally introducing himself to the clerks, Flav laughed along with the commissioners. "Oh, I'm sorry! My name is Flavor Flav, William Drayton," he replied, correcting the record before continuing his advocacy.
A Victory for Women's Sports
Despite the comedic start, the commission was impressed by Flav's proposal. The Clark County Commission officially approved the "SHE Weekend" event. The celebration is scheduled to take place from July 16–19 in Las Vegas, aiming to highlight the achievements of female athletes on a global stage.
Following the meeting, Flav took to Instagram to share the victory with his fans, posting:
"Attention! This is Flavor Flav in the building. Yo, SHE Weekend just got approved officially today by the commissioner, boyyyye!"
The event promises to be a major highlight for Las Vegas tourism and a significant boost for visibility in women's professional sports.
