Multi-hyphenate star Nicole Scherzinger is taking control of her narrative. Ahead of the premiere of her new PBS concert special, Great Performances: An Evening with Nicole Scherzinger, the singer opened up about the challenges of being "pigeonholed" in the music industry.
Filmed at London’s iconic Royal Albert Hall last October, the special is set to air on Friday, May 22. The show promises a diverse repertoire, blending hits from her time with the Pussycat Dolls with jazz classics and musical theater standards that highlight her versatile vocal range.
Reclaiming Her Narrative
In an interview with PEOPLE on Thursday, May 21, Scherzinger explained that the concert was born out of a desire to showcase the facets of her artistry often overlooked by the public.
"I really grew up in musical theater, and a lot of people didn’t know that side of me," she shared. "Sometimes when people pigeonhole you and put you in a box, they kind of only see you one way. So I was like, ‘Okay, I’m gonna create a show to share with them all the other many sides of me.’"
Rather than waiting for casting directors to offer her roles that fit her true talents, Scherzinger decided to curate the experience herself. "Why don’t I sing my favorite songs that I loved growing up... and put it in my own concert?" she added.
A Year of Major Milestones
This PBS special caps off a significant period for Scherzinger. In June 2025, she achieved a career-defining moment by winning a Tony Award for her starring role in the revival of Sunset Blvd. This victory cemented her status not just as a pop icon, but as a respected force in theatrical performance.
Pussycat Dolls Reunion on the Horizon
Fans of her girl-group roots also have reason to celebrate. This June, Scherzinger will reunite with former bandmates Kimberly Wyatt and Ashley Roberts for a special performance at the Out Loud Music Festival during WeHo Pride in Los Angeles. Following this appearance, the trio is scheduled to embark on a tour across the U.K. and Europe, bringing their signature harmonies back to stages worldwide.
